Companionship care at home.

Friendly, consistent support to reduce loneliness, maintain independence, and keep clients connected to the life they enjoy — across South London and Kent.

What companionship care is

Companionship care provides regular visits from a friendly, familiar carer whose focus is on the client as a person — their interests, their stories, their wellbeing, and their daily life. It goes beyond practical tasks to provide the kind of genuine human connection that makes a real difference to how someone feels day to day.

Loneliness and social isolation are among the most significant factors affecting the health and wellbeing of older adults. Regular companionship visits help to counter this, keeping clients engaged, stimulated, and connected to the people and activities that matter to them.

What is included

Companionship care visits from Aegys Homecare Services can include:

  • Conversation, listening, and shared interests
  • Reading together, music, crafts, gardening, and hobbies
  • Accompanying to community groups, places of worship, and social events
  • Walking and gentle outdoor activity
  • Accompanying to appointments and errands
  • Light meal preparation and hydration prompts
  • Help with correspondence, reminders, and daily organisation
  • Wellbeing checks and updates to family members with consent
  • Support maintaining cultural, faith-based, or community connections

Companionship visits are flexible in length and frequency, from a short daily check-in to a longer regular visit several times a week.

Who companionship care is for

Companionship care is suitable for adults who would benefit from regular social connection and gentle practical support. It is particularly appropriate for people who:

  • Live alone and have limited social contact
  • Have recently been bereaved or experienced a significant life change
  • Are no longer able to drive or travel independently
  • Have reduced mobility or confidence leaving the home alone
  • Have family members who live at a distance and want regular wellbeing updates
  • Are living with early to moderate dementia and benefit from stimulation and familiar company
  • Are in a care home or retirement community and would benefit from additional one-to-one attention

Companionship and the Care Circle model

Consistency is at the heart of companionship care. A companion who visits regularly becomes genuinely familiar — someone the client looks forward to seeing, who knows their stories, their preferences, and what makes them laugh. Through the Care Circle model, Aegys ensures every companionship client has the same familiar carer at every visit wherever possible.

This continuity also means the carer is well placed to notice any changes in the client's mood, physical presentation, or circumstances, and to communicate these to management and family members promptly.

Companionship and family peace of mind

For family members who live at a distance or are unable to visit as often as they would like, companionship care provides regular, reliable wellbeing checks. With consent, the Aegys carer can provide brief updates to family after each visit, giving reassurance that their loved one is well and supported.

How to get started

Getting companionship care started begins with a free home assessment. A senior member of the Aegys team visits to understand the client's interests, social needs, daily routine, and any specific preferences for the type of companionship support that would be most beneficial. A personalised care plan is created together with the client and family.
