Post-operative care at home, from day one.

Safe, attentive support during recovery following surgery or hospital discharge, delivered at home across South London and Kent.

What post-operative care is

Recovering at home after surgery or a hospital stay is often the best option — familiar surroundings, a personal routine, and one-to-one support from a dedicated carer. However the period immediately following discharge can also be the most vulnerable, when the risk of complications, falls, or delayed recovery is highest.

Post-operative care from Aegys Homecare Services provides structured, nurse-led support from the moment the client returns home, through to full recovery and independence. The service works closely with the client, family, and existing healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and smooth transition from hospital to home

Who post-operative care is for

Post-operative care is suitable for adults recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures and hospital stays, including:

  • Orthopaedic surgery including hip and knee replacement

  • Abdominal and bowel surgery

  • Cardiac surgery and procedures
  • Cancer surgery
  • ENT, gynaecology, and urology procedures

  • Cataract and other day-case surgery

  • Neurological procedures

  • Recovery following illness, infection, or injury requiring hospitalisation

Post-operative care can be short-term — covering the immediate recovery period — or extended where needs take longer to resolve.

What is included

Post-operative support from Aegys can include any combination of the following, in line with the care plan and discharge instructions:

  • Personal care, hygiene, and grooming during recovery
  • Wound observation and dressing support where trained and authorised
  • Medication management including pain relief schedules, antibiotics, and anticoagulants
  • Mobility assistance, safe transfers, and falls prevention
  • Nutrition and hydration support including meal preparation and fluid monitoring
  • Pressure area care and skin integrity checks
  • Monitoring for signs of complications and prompt escalation to the GP or 111 where needed
  • Accompanying to follow-up appointments
  • Light domestic tasks and household support during recovery
  • Communication with family members and healthcare professionals

Nurse-led oversight during recovery

Recovery after surgery carries clinical risks that require knowledgeable oversight. The Aegys Registered Manager is a qualified nurse with over 16 years of experience, providing clinical governance throughout every post-operative care package.

For higher-acuity packages — including those involving wound care, complex medication regimes, or monitoring of clinical observations — registered nurse involvement can be built directly into the care plan from the outset.

All care is delivered within staff competency, in line with discharge instructions, and any concerns are escalated promptly to the relevant healthcare professional.

Hospital discharge support

For clients being discharged directly from hospital, Aegys can work with the hospital discharge team to arrange care promptly. For non-complex packages, the service can typically mobilise within 24 to 48 hours of a completed assessment. For complex discharge packages, management oversight is provided from the first visit.

Referrals from hospital discharge coordinators, social workers, and healthcare professionals are welcome.

How to get started

Getting post-operative care started begins with a free assessment. A senior member of the Aegys team — often including the Registered Manager for complex or high-acuity packages — visits to understand the client's surgical history, discharge instructions, home environment, and support needs. A personalised care plan is created in collaboration with the client and family.

To arrange post-operative care or discuss a hospital discharge package, call 0203 747 4733 or email [email protected]. The team is available seven days a week.
