Post-Operative Care (Safe Recovery at Home)
Leaving hospital is a big step—our post-operative care makes it smoother. We coordinate your discharge, set up your home for safety and comfort, and follow your surgeon’s plan precisely so you heal well, avoid complications, and regain independence with confidence.
Who it’s for: Anyone recovering from day-case or inpatient surgery (orthopaedic, abdominal, cardiac, ENT, gynaecology, urology, cataract and more), or from illness/injury where short-term help with pain, mobility, medication, and daily routines will speed recovery.
What’s included: Wound and dressing care with red-flag checks; medication management (pain schedules, antibiotics/anticoagulants, side-effect monitoring); mobility and falls prevention (safe transfers, graded walks, ERAS/physio adherence); personal care and comfort (bathing, toileting, sleep positioning, pressure-area protection); nutrition and hydration (meal prep, fluid goals, constipation prevention post-anaesthetic/opioids); vitals and escalation (temperature, pulse, oxygen) with clear pathways to your GP or surgical team; and, where prescribed, specialist tasks such as drain/catheter/stoma checks, PEG feeding, and insulin support.
How it works: Before discharge we liaise with your ward (where possible), arrange safe transport home, and complete a home safety check (equipment, pathways, fridge/freezer stock). Your personalised recovery plan mirrors your post-op instructions, with visit lengths and frequency tapered as you improve. Our nurse-led team reviews progress regularly and adapts quickly if your needs change.
Governance & reassurance: CQC-regulated, nurse-led service with trained, vetted staff; digital MARs, red-flag protocols, and documented escalation to community teams/GP/999 when needed. With consent, family can view real-time visit notes and messages via our Transparency Portal for complete peace of mind.
Ready to recover at home with confidence? We’ll align care to your surgeon’s plan and start quickly—then taper as your strength returns.
Post-Operative Care – FAQs
Recovering at home raises lots of practical questions—timings, pain control, mobility, and how closely we follow your surgeon’s plan. This FAQ explains how we start on discharge day, what’s included, and how we taper support as you regain confidence.
Can you start the day I’m discharged?
ButtonOften, yes—if we know your discharge date, we’ll line up support to begin as you arrive home, then adjust visit times as your recovery progresses.
Do you follow my surgeon’s instructions exactly?
ButtonAbsolutely. Your care plan mirrors your post-op guidance (medication timings, mobility, red-flag checks), and we update it as your team advises.
How long will I need support?
ButtonIt varies by surgery. Many people need extra help for 1–3 weeks; we taper visits as pain, mobility and confidence improve.
